After coming back to Horizontina, during the school break, she went to São Paulo again to make an editorial (her first work as a model-to-be). Her mom wanted to see if she had any potential for this kind of work. So, she signed her up for "The Look of the Year" Contest. At the first stage of the contest (Porto Alegre- RS), 5 girls were to be selected who would go to São Paulo to take part in the national final. After the whole day of tests, she was quite surprised when she learned that she has been classified as a finalist. But Gisele couldn‘t stay for the party because the following day she was suppose to play in the volleyball championship with the school team.
At the second stage (national stage in São Paulo), she went alone and she came in second in the general classification. The contest organizers decided to take her, along with the winner, to the international final at Ibiza, Spain.
This last stage was the most difficult not only because she could not speak the official language of the contest, English, but because most of the other candidates already had experience as models, and they were much more at ease.
In spite of the difficulties, the experience of the contest was immensely interesting, and she ended up being classified among the ten finalists.
